How Acting Skills Enhance a Modeling Project

Models for still projects, actors for speaking roles, right? Not so fast.
If the shot is intended to have an element of realism – to look like something other than a model posing for the camera – then you are really doing a portrayal, at least to some degree.
The key to effective portrayals is facial expression and body language, animated and realistic to the role. This is where acting skills and experience come in, especially in a shooting situation where the actor / model has to stand around waiting for the photographer to be ready, lighting, setting and makeup adjusted. Then on command – they must produce the required look. Acting! Genius! Thank You! (In the shot at left we cast a pair of experienced actors for a coffee advertisement.)
